The Australian War Memorial's most prized possessions, including Lancaster bomber G-George and the Japanese midget submarine from Sydney Harbour, will receive a new home under a multi-million development scheme.
Unveiling plans for the new $11.9 million Anzac Hall, Veterans Affairs Minister Bruce Scott said it would be the largest exhibition hall in the country and an important step forward in the memorial's development.
``Since the first stage redevelopment of the War Memorial we have seen an increase of 30 per cent in visitor numbers," Mr Scott said.
The fan-shaped building, designed by Australian architects Denton Corker Marshall, will be built on the car park area at the rear of the existing 60-year-old building.
